Mixture cure models for metastatic recurrence.

Brachytherapy is a crucial treatment that contributes to the effective cure of patients with cervical cancer. Traditional survival methods do not explicitly account for an unobserved cured subgroup within censored data.
The mixture cure model allows a portion of subjects, $1-\pi(z)$, to be immune to the outcome of interest:
